Patons SWS Review

I love the colors. I love the stripping. I love the patterns that have been designed for this yarn.

I do not love the yarn itself.

The skein that I used to make my hat yesterday had been cut and tied in not one, not two and not even three but four different places that I came across in the part of the skein I used.

Its also very scratchy. My head itches when I wear it. I have not washed it yet, so perhaps that will make it softer.....one can hope this is the case since so many people are making hats with it.

I still have several skeins that need to find projects. No idea what they will be though since I really am not up to making more hats with this yarn, although I really do like the stripping and the colors and the hat patterns that are available for this yarn!

Anyone else have any thoughts on SWS?

I had some of those knot issues and lately, it seems, it's happening all the time, even the pricier yarn.

I like the striping of SWS-however it is itchy to me also. I made a case for my camera and felted it and, although it shows some stitch definition, it's fuzzish and and I like it-it's not much softer.

I would suggest, something I wanted to do, the pillow pattern Patons has on their site-it's felted and looks beautiful or maybe a bag.

I almost bought some the other day to make your hat, but put it back when I saw the knots. But, have you thought of doing fuzzy feet? I only say that because I am currently in LOVE with the ones I'm making - and since it's suppsed to be felted it shouldnt matter. Also, check Ravelry to see what others are making with the sws.

try this to get rid of the itch : put in plastic bag, squeeze air out and close, then put in the freezer for 24 hours. it sounds totally wacky, but it works.

I made one scarf out of SWS and it was so scratchy I could hardly even touch it! I liked the colors, but not enough to deal with the knots, fuzz and scratch.

I´m sorry, Kim. It seemed a soft yarn in the picture... I´m curious about what the anonymous comments here, why don´t you give a try? Maybe it works!

have you thought of using it for a bag. I really love the colors they have in this yarn but if it is itchy you might want to felt it.

Mine didn't have so many knots. I was crocheting a bag with it that I really need to finish. I like how the yarn stripes, and it has a lovely sheen

Thanks for the comments everyone! I will try to make something else with it, but a different colorway...perhaps it was just the one I bought....we shall see!

I have purchased this for other's... like in swaps and such. I'm glad that you posted about it because it is very pricey for that kind of review.

I just knew that it felt to good to be true. It also looks to good to be true as well. Very pretty stuff!

I had a knot issue with another yarn (I forget which one) but it was a stripy yarn and I found that the yarn was attached backwards (meaning the colors went in the opposite direction after the knot). What a pain that was, since I had to completely unravel the skein and reroll in the correct direction. I have some SWS in my stash, but I haven't used it yet.
