Car sickness?

Can someone develop adult on-set car sickness?

I have never had a problem travelling in a car. Growing up we would go to Florida every year for Spring Break and drive there and back, and often go on other road trips around the eastern part of the US.

I noticed last year when I went to Florida with my family that riding in the back of the mini-van around town made me a bit queasy. And several times over the year while riding in taxis around Europe that I would often feel queasy. It does not happen when I drive and not every time I am in the car. Reading will sometimes set it off.

Am I imagining things, or can one really develope car sickness as an adult? Or is it just perhaps becuase I am not riding in cars that often that my body has forgotten the motion? I don't get sea-sick, and nor do I get motion sickness from rides (a good thing since I am a roller coaster fanatic). Airplanes never even phase me. Its just the occasional car ride!

Anyone else have this problem?

I didn't start car sickness until I was an asult either. I even get motion sick on carousels if I don't look straight ahead and it I am on an up and down horse.

My neighbor said she never had problems with it till she was an adult... so I guess it's possible!

When I was about 25, I started having problems when I rode in the backseat. So now I always get shotgun. :)

Yup, that's motion sickness alright. I've always suffered from it since the day I was born. Riding in the back or reading will bring it on pretty quickly. I have noticed that I can't do some things that I used to do when I was younger like swinging. Can you believe that?! Talk about wimpy! If you can find a product called Bonine, it works really well without making you drowsy. Take it before you travel.

I never fell sick in the car until I became a teenager and started reading in the car. I still can't read in the car, but I find that I can knit or crochet with no problems--as long as I'm not reading a pattern!

Always feel icky sicky if I have to ride in a back seat of a car, or if I dare try to read anything. I envy people who can read on a bus.
